Well everyone has come up with an issue in making a good career choice at some point in life. I was also one of them after the completion of 10+2. I was very disappointed with my grades. It was totally a typical task to search for a college, in fact, I did not have any idea of the courses I wanted to opt for as my future. My parents wanted me to be an engineer but I wanted to explore in the field of art but I was clueless about the future scope in it. One evening, I was surfing on Google about various courses and came up with the career in counseling. So, I felt like sharing it with everyone. If you are one of my kind and want to know more about the career in counseling, Then read further.
Working Schedule of a Counselor
One of my friends is a career counselor. So, I asked him about his working schedule. He takes around 45-minutes session with his clients and sometimes more than an hour. Throughout the day, he manages to counsel about 10 clients. A lot of time it becomes cumbersome to examine about an individual and guide him for his career but his job is like that. He has the power to change the life of a person.
Important skills that a counselor should have
- Concern and kindness
The number of counselors I have met till date are so kind and are concerned towards their clients that one could easily rely on them and share problems with them.

- Understanding
The counselor should be able to understand the situation of a person and put himself in the shoes of the client. He must be able to wear out a solution that would go in the long run.
- Flexible
A counselor should be flexible in nature so that he could be able to take things according to the client’s point of view. Rigidity may cause frustration to the client.
- Belief
Counselor’s another important skill is the belief in his client. He should see the goodness in him and judge the potential of the person. This may boost the confidence of the client and help him to proceed in future.

Education criteria for becoming a counselor
It takes several amends and years to become a counselor. Nothing is served on a silver platter, you have to work hard for it. Steps towards a counseling career are:
Earn a bachelor’s degree:
Albeit few lone ranger’s projects offer a degree particularly in counseling, a college degree in brain research, human administrations, or another related field, is a decent beginning.
Attain a graduate degree:
Although students may get the job in counseling after a bachelor’s degree but I would recommend that one should undergo the Graduate degree program to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPCs).
Get training:
Throughout the graduation, one may attain a handful of knowledge. But according to my experience, I would say that one should do various internship to attain expertise before beginning an independent career in counseling.
License:
The license is very important and required by every state from a certified counselor. License criteria vary from state to state but typically requires a Masters degree.
